All that looked familiar. And then it hit me. Although I have no interest in cars,I felt compelled to take a photo of a VW Bettle that I encountered parked in a side road in Eastern Iran (in Kerman,I think).

I was driven around in a car like the one above,by a local guide in Esfahan. The car once belonged to the American Ambassador (to whom he once was once a member of staff in better wage check days) in the years when American officialdom was in Iran. When we drove in it,you could tell it was on eggshells and that if you so much as slammed the door or went beyond 15mph it would have all fallen to pieces. But it was stylish and was history in his life. He used to drive it so slowly you'd think the Shah was in the back during a parade. He had to do mechanics on the engine twice just on a short outing,to get the enginer restarted it. But he had great pride in owning the car, nonetheless.
Thats a proper pimp-mobile. I could see you cruising around 70's Harlem keeping yo ho's in check in that beast ;)
I imagined the Shah would have been in one of those super Mercedes that Idi Amin used to love :)

Yeah, certainly is a pimp mobile. With my reply I was going to write that it would have been found in a 1970s Starsky and Hutch alley way, with a "Wah Wah" soundtrack. I believe that this was the Shah's beloved car at one time. A 1957 Ferrari 410 Superamerica. Oh, and he liked riding horses too.
Can't believe that got rid of him for the Ayatollah, who legend has drove this
